Childhood friends Hamza Jawaid (Co-founder, Strategy – 29) and Saad Jangda (Co-founder, Product – 29) founded Bazaar in 2020 with the intention of building a high-growth company out of Pakistan. Operating in the ~$200B Pakistani Retail Market, Bazaar (which translates to marketplace in Urdu) is building an operating system for traditional retail in Pakistan with a fully integrated platform across marketplace, last-mile, software, and fintech solutions. Its suite of digital products empowers merchants (mainly mom-and-pop grocers called kiryana) to simplify and grow their businesses through commerce and fintech solutions. The company offers retailers, brands, and wholesalers a way to seamlessly and electronically connect with one another for the first time in the market. The Bazaar retail app provides a one-stop-shop to purchase thousands of products for merchants’ stores and the company’s fintech app is a digital ledger for simple bookkeeping, faster debt collection and a lending product for merchants.
